When you’re totally frustrated, it brings up a lot of feelings, usually of angst, because whatever is happening to you is so upsetting you want to hit your head against the wall. Think about the obstacles you have to deal with that get in the way of what you’re trying to do, times when work is difficult and you can’t seem to get anything meaningful accomplished, and just daily nuisances that annoy you and make you angry and irritable.
You know what I’m talking about. You’ve got your day planned to the letter because you’ve got so much you need to get done. Unfortunately frustration creeps into your day. You’re working on a project on your computer and for some reason it crashes and you lose all your work; you have a vendor that’s supposed to make a special delivery and it never shows up; or you drive to an appointment and get stuck in traffic and are extremely late to a very important meeting.
And these frustrations seem to happen more frequently than ever. So how can you manage your day so you don’t become frustrated and irritable all time? Here are some ways to help you work through these challenges:
Look on the Bright Side of Your Frustrations – When you look around you, there is always someone who is worse off than you. Most of your daily frustrations are really minor challenges and are not that important in the long term.
Focus on What is Going Well – Remember that your day isn’t ruined by a few minor frustrations. Get through them and look to what is positive and going well.
Taking Action Moves You Forward – A lot of time we can become frustrated when things are holding us back. By taking action, you feel like you’re doing something positive that will move you forward and minimize your frustrations.
Visualize a Positive Outcome – When you’re frustrated by things that are happening in your day, take a few minutes to close your eyes, practice some deep breathing to calm yourself down, and then focus on what you want to happen that will result in a positive outcome.
Everyone has frustrations. It’s the way you deal with them that will have a positive impact on your life.
